Built For The Bench

The first thing you reach for.

Plug it in before you touch a problem machine, so nothing's lost if the repair goes sideways.

Back up before repair

Capture a bare-metal backup to your own Proxmox Backup Server before touching disks, partitions, or operating systems.

Recover what will not boot

Boot from USB, inspect the machine, recover files, repair partitions, and work around broken operating systems.

Test failing hardware

Run memory, CPU, GPU, disk, network, and system checks from one focused repair dashboard.

Built-in antivirus

Catch malware that hides from Windows.

A free, built-in offline virus scanner powered by ClamAV, it runs from the USB with the computer’s operating system switched off.

  • Detects malware that hides from Windows, or that blocks or disables normal antivirus while the system is running.
  • Scans any Windows or Linux drive directly from the toolkit.
  • You choose what happens: report only, quarantine safely, or remove.
  • Definitions update automatically online, with a bundled offline fallback.
  • Pairs with built-in rootkit scanners (chkrootkit + rkhunter) for a full malware-and-rootkit sweep.

A valuable safety check before a backup or after a restore. Not a replacement for a full real-time antivirus product.

Proxmox Backup Server

Back up. Restore. Resize.

Pair the toolkit with a Proxmox Backup Server: capture a full bare-metal image, restore the whole machine when you need it, and on restore, automatically grow the system onto a larger drive. Don’t have a server yet? The stick can install one for you on a spare PC.

01

Full backup to PBS

A complete bare-metal image of the machine, captured to your own Proxmox Backup Server before any risky work.

02

Full restore from PBS

Bring the entire machine back from that image, exactly as it was, whenever you need it.

03

Resize to a larger drive

After a restore, auto-expand the system onto a bigger SSD, ideal for SATA-to-SSD upgrades.

Scan before you trust it. Run the toolkit’s built-in offline ClamAV virus scan right after a backup, or before you restore one, so you never capture malware into an image or roll it back onto a clean machine.

Built-in speed test

Is it the internet, or the PC?

One tap measures the connection on a live gauge, download, upload, ping, and jitter, so you can tell in seconds whether a slow machine is the network or the hardware itself.

Powered by Cloudflare. No account, no install.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Do I need to be technical to use it?
No. You work from a simple on-screen menu and follow plain prompts. If you can plug in a USB stick and read a screen, you can use it.
Is it safe, could I lose my files?
The tools you reach for most, file recovery, diagnostics, and hardware tests, are read-only and do not change anything. The few tools that can erase or overwrite a drive always warn you and make you confirm the exact target first. Keeping a backup before any repair is still good practice.
Will it work on my computer?
It boots almost any desktop or laptop, Windows or Linux, old or new, directly from the USB. Because it runs on its own, the computer’s installed system does not even need to be working for the toolkit to start.
Does it work on a Mac?
No, it’s built for standard Windows and Linux PCs (the x86/x64 hardware most desktops and laptops use), not for Macs. Newer Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and later) use a different kind of processor and a locked-down boot process that the toolkit can’t start from, and even older Intel Macs block booting from outside tools like this by default. If you need to rescue or diagnose a PC, it’s the right tool, but it won’t boot Mac hardware.
My PC will not start properly, can this still help?
Often, yes. As long as the machine powers on, the stick boots on its own, completely separate from your broken system. That lets you recover files, test the hardware, and see what is wrong even when Windows will not load.
What is actually on it?
Thirty-one trusted, open-source tools for the most common rescue jobs: recovering lost files, testing drives and memory, resetting Windows passwords, securely wiping disks, checking hardware health, and backing up or restoring a whole machine.
Does it include a virus scanner?
Yes, a free, built-in offline virus scanner powered by ClamAV, plus two rootkit scanners (chkrootkit and rkhunter) for a full malware-and-rootkit sweep. Because they run with the computer’s operating system switched off, they can catch threats that hide from Windows while the system is running, then report, quarantine, or remove what they find. It’s a useful safety check, though not a replacement for a full real-time antivirus product.
Do I need to be online to use it?
No, every tool runs completely offline, which is the whole point of a rescue stick. When you do have a connection, signing in lets the stick pull free updates and the latest virus definitions, so your scans stay current. The offline tools never depend on it.
Do I need my own server to back up or restore?
You have two easy options. If you already run a Proxmox Backup Server, just point the toolkit at it. If you don’t, the toolkit can install one for you on a spare computer, so you end up with a complete, self-hosted backup system. Either way, everything else works completely on its own, with no server needed: file recovery, diagnostics, password reset, secure wipe, and hardware tests. Set up a backup server →
